Hi, I'm Omar Al Talea

AI graduate, model builder, problem solver

I build models that see and learn, and I check where they look.

About Omar

I'm an AI graduate drawn to problems where the answer has to be measured, not guessed. I've taken models from raw data to evaluation, compared them across several metrics, and explained the results in plain language.

Road inspection robot

ROS 2 · Nav2 · OpenCV

A simulated robot that drives itself, spots potholes and logs each one's position on the map. It found 16 of 18 in a typical run.

OpenAI API · Flask

For RDK Live: a learner types a goal, and an LLM builds a personalised path through the client's course library.

More projects

A quick look at other things I've worked on.

  • My first project: face recognition on Azure

Face recognition on the Yale Faces dataset with a DenseNet pipeline in Azure Machine Learning, then tested on covered and altered faces. Small, but it's where I started.

  • AI chatbot platform

A full-stack chatbot website on the OpenAI API, built following Agile principles. It was our first hands-on project in human-computer interaction (HCI).

  • Explainable AI and HCI

Research and implementation work in human-computer interaction and explainable AI.

  • Data and AI governance

Team research on governing a facial recognition system used for security in the UK, which ended in a debate against a team arguing the opposite side.

  • Food waste app

A group student project built to compete with Too Good To Go: a mobile-first web app for reserving surplus meals from nearby restaurants. I worked on the front end.

  • VR living space to ease loneliness

A Unity VR prototype for people who feel lonely: put on the headset and the office around you comes alive with characters walking about.

What I do

Driven by data, checked by evaluation.

Where I've been

My journey

A First Class finish

Three years studying AI at Northumbria University in Newcastle. My dissertation measured how image quality changes what an AI model sees when grading diabetic retinopathy, and the university commended it for its publication potential.

A real client, a real deadline

Twelve weeks as an AI consultant in a student team from my university, working for RDK Live, a client in Durham, UK. I led the OpenAI integration, built the front end, and presented progress to the client in plain language.

Ready to join your team.

I'm excited to start my first role in machine learning, computer vision or applied AI. I'm based in Saudi Arabia and open to relocation. Hiring, or just curious about my work? I'd love to hear from you.
